The air cooler for a refinery requires a rerate for a higher temperature and pressure. HEA was approached to evaluate the cooler’s compliance with the requirements of the ASME code for structural adequacy.
Our engineering team used a combination of hand calculations for the majority of the pressure boundary and support components and a finite element model analysis for the headers to evaluate the cooler. Nozzle and pressure loads are applied to the model. The final report demonstrates that the cooler satisfies the ASME code requirements for the rerated conditions.
